I'm really glad you're here. Today we're celebrating one of the most powerful turning points in the Wheel of the Year, the summer solstice. Summer solstice happens this Sunday, June 21st. And whether you're listening on the day of solstice itself or sometime during the season that follows, this is an invitation to pause and connect with that energy that surrounds us right now. Summer solstice is often associated with sunshine, abundance, growth, vitality, and celebration. It is the longest day of the year, the moment when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky and we experience the greatest amount of daylight. There's something deeply magical about that. For thousands of years, people across cultures have honored this moment. Ancient peoples built monuments aligned with the rising sun on the solstice. Communities gathered for feasts, dances, bonfires, and ceremonies. The sun has long been recognized as the symbol of life, energy, illumination, and divine connection. Even today, whether we're consciously celebrating it or not, many of us feel the shift that comes with longer days, warmer temperatures, and the vibrant energy of summer. But what I find most interesting about summer solstice is that beneath all of the celebration and light, there's also a profound lesson about cycles. Because while it's the longest day of the year, it's also the turning point. After the solstice, the days will gradually begin to shorten. The shift is almost imperceptible at first, but it's already begun. Nature reminds us that nothing stays at its peak forever. Every season eventually gives way to the next. Every period of growth eventually transitions into a period of harvest, reflection, rest, and renewal. I think there's wisdom in that. We live in a culture that constantly encourages us to chase the next thing, the next goal, the next achievement, the next milestone. We often move so quickly toward what is coming that we forget to acknowledge what is already here. The summer solstice invites us to stop for a moment and recognize what has already grown. If we think back six months ago to the winter solstice, many of us were setting intentions for the year ahead. We were reflecting on what we hope to create, heal, learn, or experience. Some of those intentions may have unfolded exactly as we imagined. Others may have taken us in an entirely unexpected direction. The beautiful thing about growth is that it rarely looks the way we think it will. Sometimes growth looks like achieving a goal. Sometimes growth looks like ending a relationship that was no longer aligned. Sometimes growth looks like finally setting a boundary. Sometimes it looks like learning to trust yourself. Sometimes growth looks like surviving a difficult season and discovering strength that you didn't even know you had. Growth is not always visible from the outside. Just as roots develop beneath the surface before a plant ever breaks through the soil, much of our personal growth happens internally before anyone else can see it. Solstice gives us an opportunity to honor all of it. The visible growth, the invisible growth, the victories, the lessons, the healing, the becoming. One of the things I love about working with clients is witnessing these moments. People often come to me focused on what still needs to be fixed, healed, or changed. They're looking ahead to the next step on their journey. And while there's nothing wrong with growth and evolution, sometimes I find myself reminding them to look back, to notice how far they've come already, to recognize patterns that they no longer repeat, to acknowledge fears that they've moved through, to celebrate the ways they have expanded. We are often so close to our own transformation that we don't fully see it. Summer solstice asks us to see it, to witness ourselves with the same compassion and appreciation that we would offer to a friend, to recognize the blooms in our own garden. Spiritually, the solstice is often associated with illumination. Light reveals, light makes things visible, light shines into places that may have previously been hidden. When we think about illumination in a spiritual sense, it's easy to focus on external guidance. We ask for signs, for messages, for clarity, or direction. But illumination can also be deeply personal. What parts of yourself are ready to be seen? What gifts have you been minimizing? What wisdom have you been overlooking? What truth have you been avoiding? The light of the solstice does not just illuminate the world around us, it illuminates what exists within us as well. And sometimes that can feel uncomfortable. Many of us have been taught to hide parts of ourselves. We learn to make ourselves smaller. We learn to fit in. We learn to prioritize other people's comfort over our own authenticity. Yet every person carries unique gifts. Every person carries a unique expression of energy. Every person has something meaningful to contribute. The solstice invites us to step a little more fully into that expression. Not from a place of ego or of proving oneself, but from a place of honoring who we truly are. I think this is also where human design offers an interesting perspective. One of the things human design teaches us is that we're not all designed to operate in the same way. We each have different energy dynamics, different strengths, different decision-making processes, and different ways of interacting with the world. Summer is often associated with productivity and action. We may feel pressure to do more, accomplish more, and keep moving forward. We may naturally have the energy for this. But alignment doesn't come from matching someone else's rhythm. It comes from honoring your own. For some people, summer energy feels expansive and energizing, but for others, it might feel overwhelming. Some people feel called to socialize, travel, create, and explore, while others may need to go a little slower. Neither way is right or wrong. Nature itself demonstrates that every living thing follows its own timing. The oak tree does not compare itself to the wildflower, and the river doesn't compare itself to the mountain. Each fulfills its purpose in its own way. The solstice reminds us that we can do the same. Now, I want to share a simple solstice ritual that you can do on your own. You don't need elaborate tools or a perfect setup. All you need is a journal and a willingness to reflect. I like to call this the summer solstice inventory. Find a quiet place where you won't be interrupted for a few minutes. Create three sections in your journal. The first section is what has grown. Take some time to reflect on the past six months. What has expanded in your life? What have you learned? What have you healed? What have you accomplished? What relationships have deepened? And what strengths have emerged. Allow yourself to acknowledge both the obvious and the subtle forms of growth. The second section, what am I grateful for? Gratitude has a remarkable way of shifting our perspective. When we intentionally recognize what is already present, we often discover that there's far more abundance in our lives than we realized. Write freely. Let yourself appreciate the people, the experiences, the opportunities, the lessons, and the blessings that have supported your journey. The third section is what am I ready to illuminate? This is where the solstice energy comes in. What part of yourself is ready to step into the light? What dream have you been postponing? What truth are you ready to acknowledge? What gift are you ready to share? What next step feels aligned? You don't have to have all the answers. Simply allow yourself to listen to what comes up. Sometimes the most important insights arrive in the moments of stillness. If you would rather take the ritual a little further, consider spending a few moments outdoors. Take the time to feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Close your eyes. Take a few slow breaths. Imagine golden sunlight pouring through the top of your head and filling your entire body. Allow that light to move through every cell, through every memory, through every fear, through every dream. Imagine it illuminating both your strengths and your growing edges with equal compassion. And then ask yourself one simple question. What within me is ready to be seen fully? Don't force an answer. Simply listen. You may receive a word, a feeling, an image, or perhaps nothing at all in that moment. But trust whatever arises. Sometimes the answer unfolds over days or weeks rather than minutes. As we begin to close today's episode, I want to leave you with one final thought. The summer solstice is not just a celebration of the sun in the sky, it is a celebration of the light that exists within each of us. A reminder that growth is happening even when we can't see it. A reminder that we are allowed to acknowledge our progress. A reminder that we are allowed to celebrate ourselves. And a reminder that life moves in cycles. There will be seasons of expansion, there will be seasons of rest. There will be seasons of planting, and there will be seasons of harvest. Each has its own wisdom, each has its own gifts. And on Sunday, when the sun reaches its peak, may you take a moment to honor what has bloomed in your own life. May you recognize the strength that brought you here. May you celebrate the growth that has already occurred. And may you allow yourself to shine a little more brightly in the season ahead. Until next time, honor the light that has helped you grow. Celebrate the blooms that are already present. And trust the wisdom in the season you're in. Take what you've heard today even further by joining my newsletter community.
